Service Description
COURSE OVERVIEW: This Mental Health First Aid Champions Training course equips participants with the essential knowledge, skills and confidence to act as peer-support ambassadors for mental health within your organisation or community. Over the day, participants will explore what mental health is (and isnβt), recognise early warning signs of mental ill-health (such as anxiety, depression, self-harm, psychosis) and learn how to have supportive conversations, challenge stigma and sign-post to additional support. Participants will also develop a personal and group action plan to proactively foster a mentally healthy environment. COURSE OBJECTIVES: By the end of this course, participants will be able to: π― Define what is meant by mental health and mental ill health, and explain how these concepts impact overall wellbeing. π― Recognise common signs and symptoms of mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout in themselves and others. π― Describe the difference between everyday stress and diagnosable mental health conditions. π― Explain the importance of early intervention and the role of a Mental Health Champion in supporting colleagues and promoting wellbeing. π― Demonstrate effective communication and active listening skills when engaging in supportive conversations about mental health. π― Apply appropriate boundaries when offering peer support, ensuring confidentiality and signposting where necessary. π― Identify the main internal and external sources of help and professional support available for individuals experiencing mental ill health. π― Understand the impact of stigma and discrimination on mental health and discuss strategies to challenge stigma in the workplace. π― Promote a positive mental health culture by encouraging open dialogue and inclusive wellbeing practices across the organisation. π― Outline relevant UK legislation and workplace policies that protect mental health, such as the Equality Act 2010 and Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. π― Develop a personal action plan to enhance their own mental wellbeing and resilience as a Mental Health Champion. π― Contribute to an organisational wellbeing strategy by planning awareness events, initiatives, and campaigns that support a mentally healthy workplace.
