Moving and Handling People

Course Overview:

The Train the Trainer in Moving and Handling People course provides participants with the knowledge and teaching skills required to deliver safe and effective moving and handling training within health and social care settings. The course covers the principles of safe people handling, correct posture and body mechanics, risk assessment, and techniques to prevent musculoskeletal injuries for both staff and service users. Learners will explore legislation, employer and employee responsibilities, and best practice in using equipment such as hoists, slide sheets, and transfer aids. Practical demonstrations and supervised practice form a key part of the course, ensuring competence in safe and dignified people handling. Alongside this, participants develop training delivery skills including lesson planning, adapting to learner needs, engaging different learning styles, assessing competence, and ensuring sessions align with workplace health and safety standards.

🎯Explain the anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal system in relation to safe movement.

🎯Describe the main types of manual handling injuries and their causes.

🎯Identify and assess the risks associated with manual handling in the workplace.

🎯Demonstrate correct manual handling techniques for a range of loads and care-based activities.

🎯Explain the safe use, maintenance, and inspection of manual handling equipment.

🎯Understand how to plan and implement safe systems of work for manual handling.

🎯Describe how to promote a positive health and safety culture within the organisation.

🎯Demonstrate effective teaching and presentation skills for delivering moving and handling training.

🎯Understand how to assess learners’ competence in moving and handling techniques.

🎯Develop and use appropriate training materials and assessment documentation.

🎯Evaluate the effectiveness of moving and handling training within their organisation.

Course Cost / Duration:

£695.00 inclusive for a group of up to 12 participants.

 

This course takes 12 hours to complete and is delivered as a blended learning course. Participants will complete 4 hours of independent study online and the remaining 8 hours will be delivered over a full day 09:00 - 17:00.

Important Information:

Participants attending this course must be present for the duration of the training in order to receive a certificate upon completion. Participants must not be expected to be on shift during the training and the environment must be safe and suitable for the training to be delivered.
